Tue 3/27/12 8:26 AM – Another Look at True Employment

Smart Money Magazine Online did a different take on true employment using the Bureau of Labor Statistics own data. As regular readers know, the unemployment rate as it is reported is one of my pet peeves because it is misleading. Here’s the chart. Click to enlarge.

Smart Money looked at the percentage of men between 25 and 54 working full-time jobs, what it calls “the Guy Rate.” I am not sure why they didn’t use ages 25 to 64.

As you can see, the number of adult men engaged in full-time work is no better than in early 2009 at the bottom of the stock market and just before the lowest depth of the recession.
